reinventing64 asked: Dr. Jean, regarding John Robb, DVM who reduced the dosage of vaccines for small dogs and cats, is there any scientific basis for the dosage recommended by the manufacturers? 1ml for any breed, weight, age? What effect would reducing antigen have on triggering immunity and memory cells?

Question: Dr. Jean, regarding John Robb, DVM (http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/article/Stamford-vet-at-center-of-vaccination-debate-4284673.php#src=fb) who reduced the dosage of vaccines for small dogs and cats, is there any scientific basis for the dosage recommended by the manufacturers? 1ml for any breed, weight, age?

Dr. Dodds: No.

Question: What effect would reducing antigen have on triggering immunity and memory cells?

Dr. Dodds: As long as the dose is not reduced by more than 50%, it can effectively immunize smaller dogs who weigh not more than 12 pounds as adults. There have been 2 studies over the years in infants, one recent, showing that a lower adult dose is effective in fully immunizing them.
